Industry: Homemade Ice Cream

Free Standing Walk-in Sub Freezer

This 8’x10’ walk-in sub-freezer unit was custom-built for a popular ice cream company based in Seattle, Washington. Given the stringent temperature requirements for ice cream products, the client needed a unit that not only ensured easy accessibility but also maintained a consistent -10° freezer capability. This sub-freezer has been expertly customized to meet our client’s precise specifications. Among the optional features incorporated into this unit are remote refrigeration, keg duty flooring, a sloped room design, a custom drain line, and a specialized parapet wall design.

Hurricane Protection

Given the proximity to the ocean, the ice cream company required a sub-freezer capable of withstanding hurricane-force winds. To meet this stringent requirement, we’ve included an anchor system for secure on-site installation. This system ensures that the sub freezer remains firmly in place even during the most severe weather conditions.

Furthermore, the unit is fitted with hurricane tie-down straps, offering an added layer of security during extreme weather events. These straps help to ensure the stability of the freezer, reducing the risk of damage and ensuring the safety of its contents.

Saltwater Corrosion Resistance

In addition to the robust anchor system, Polar King has integrated several advanced features to enhance durability and performance in coastal environments. These features include a coated evaporator and coated condenser coil, both of which are designed to resist corrosion from salty air. The sub freezer also comes equipped with a saltwater-resistant electrical box, providing extra protection against the harsh marine climate.

Our commitment to quality and safety is reflected in the fact that Polar King products have earned Miami-Dade County product control approval. This prestigious certification confirms that our products comply with the high-velocity hurricane zone requirements of the Florida Building Code, as evidenced by Miami-Dade NOA No. 18-0516.05.

By choosing Polar King, the ice cream company can have confidence in a sub freezer that not only meets their specific needs but also stands up to the challenges of a coastal environment.

Custom Exterior with Parapet Walls

The exterior of this walk-in cooler features parapet walls. Customers often choose this option so that the facade of the unit will go up higher and cover the refrigeration that may be mounted on top.  This ensures that mechanical equipment located on top of the unit is hidden from view.  Polar King with a PMS color sample, which was matched at no additional charge.

Standard Equipment

This application also includes a range of standard equipment such as bright interior lighting, a lockable door latch, an antimicrobial interior finish, pre-charged refrigerant, and a 12-year structural warranty.
