The patented process for constructing our energy efficient walk in cooler incorporates urethane insulation completely encased in fiberglass, both inside and out. This method provides superior structural strength since it forms a one-piece structure. There are no seams on a Polar King walk-in unit; therefore the structure remains completely intact so air and moisture cannot deteriorate the insulation.

One-piece seamless construction allows the unit to be set outside without the use of a roof cap or any other type of expensive protection. The walk in is completely weatherproof and requires no assembly. Every Polar King comes with a 12-year complete structural warranty ensuring you superior durability even in the worst of weather conditions.

The Polar King walk in is designed to save you money by being as energy efficient as possible, cutting operating costs, lowering power bills, reducing maintenance/repair costs and eliminating construction and replacement costs. Polar King uses fiberglass, so you never have to worry about rusting, denting or corroding, and you can be certain that your unit will always look factory new with regular care and cleaning. Common walk in cooler sizes & layouts

When choosing a Polar King outdoor walk-in, you have the flexibility to choose a thru-wall or freestanding unit. Thru-wall installations allow the operator to place the unit outdoors while providing the convenience of accessing the unit from indoors. Freestanding units on the other hand, are stand alone units that are not attached to the building and are accessed from outside.

The type of unit that is right for you will depend on how you intend to use the walk-in or what type of an operation you have. In many cases, a freestanding unit can later be used for a thru-wall application and vice-versa.

Whether you need a cooler, freezer or combination of both, a Polar King walk-in will save inside space and increase your buying power. Every Polar King unit allows you to design your own floor plan and enables you to locate doors and walls virtually anywhere. This flexibility provides foodservice operators unlimited storage opportunities ideally suited for their application, with additional configuration capabilities allowing you to organize your walk-in cooler in the most efficient way possible.

Freestanding and thru-wall units come in a wide range of sizes and variations. You can get your Polar King in widths from 6′ to 16′ and in lengths up to 60′. Before you plan to expand, consider the savings a Polar King will provide.

Frequently Asked Questions about walk in coolers

Want to know more about Polar King walk in coolers? If you don’t see what you’re looking for below, check out complete answers to our 14 most frequently asked questions here.

How does a walk in cooler work?

Heat energy always moves from areas of higher temperature to areas of lower temperature.  Refrigerant inside of a walk in cooler absorbs heat inside, then passes through a compressor as it travels outside. The higher pressure increases the temperature of the refrigerant until it transfers heat to the outside air. When the refrigerant passes back inside, it is expanded again, cooling the refrigerant and beginning the process again.

What temperature does a walk in cooler operate at?

Walk in coolers are usually set at 35°, but specific applications may require higher or lower temperatures.

Can a walk in cooler be used as a freezer?

Standard walk ins may be able to be converted into freezers if their insulation is thick enough, but they would require major system changes. If you need a unit that can work as a walk in cooler or freezer, Polar King offers dual-temperature units that can be set for cooling or freezing temperatures with the turn of a dial.

What are common walk in cooler sizes?

Most manufacturers offer panel boxes that are assembled on site with 8’x10’ or 8’x20’ dimensions. Because Polar King’s outdoor walk ins are custom built and aren’t constrained by the size of your existing structure, we can build your walk in to whatever size fits your needs — up to 16’ x 65’.

How much electricity does a walk in cooler use?

There are many factors that affect how much electricity your walk in cooler uses, including the size of the unit, its location, and what it’s used for. Many walk-in coolers are 1½-3 horsepower systems needing 15-30 amps and 208-230 volts, 3-phase, but this may vary, depending on your application.

What type of insulation is used in walk in coolers?

Panel Boxes use foamed-in-place polyurethane components that can leave voids that allow heat to flow into the unit. Polar King walk in coolers use Polyisocyanurate rigid board insulation, which provides high compressive strength, excellent adhesion to facers, low water absorption, and low vapor transmission, and superior energy efficiency.
