White Polar King combo box
  • Cuts operating costs
  • Reduces power bills
  • Lowers maintenance/repair costs
  • Eliminates replacement and construction costs
  • Includes a 12-year structural warranty

Know why there aren’t any seams on a Polar King walk in cooler? The sleek, continuous design isn’t just for looks—it’s part of what makes our walk in coolers so energy efficient. Our patented construction process starts with premium polyisocyanurate rigid board insulation that we completely encase in durable fiberglass, inside and out. This one-piece construction increases the strength of the structure and blocks air and moisture from contacting the insulation and causing it to deteriorate. The rigid insulation completely surrounds the insulated chamber, eliminating the possibility of “hot spots” found in other units.

Polar King walk ins are so efficient that they can reduce maintenance & repair costs, cut power bills, and eliminate construction & replacement costs. The durable fiberglass structure won’t rust, dent or corrode, and it can stand up to the elements without needing a roof cap or other expensive protection. Walk in coolers arrive ready to operate without the added cost of onsite assembly — and because they’re outdoor units, you can effectively add to your square footage by relocating your cold storage outside.

The attractive units can stay looking factory new for many years with regular care and cleaning and with our 12-year complete structural warranty, you can count on your walk in cooler to last even in the most extreme weather conditions.

Configurations that fit your needs

Inside of a Polar King industrial freezer
Blue and grey layout of refrigeration units

Outdoor walk in coolers can be installed as thru-wall or freestanding units, depending on what works best for your workflow. Freestanding units stand alone and are accessed from outside. Thru-wall installations combine the space-saving efficiency of an outdoor unit with the ease of indoor access. If your needs change, units can often be modified later to switch between thru-wall or outdoor access.

Polar King walk-ins can offer cooler or freezer storage — or even give you a combination of both. And because you can design your own layout with doors and walls wherever you need them, you can give your operators unlimited storage opportunities created specifically for your application. Additional configuration options can organize your walk-in cooler for even more efficiency.

Need more space inside of your building? Polar King walk ins come in 6′ to 16′ widths and can be up to 60′ in length. Before you consider expanding your structure, consider how much additional room you can gain by relocating your cold storage outside of your floor plan.

Frequently Asked Questions about walk in coolers

Want to know more about Polar King walk in coolers? If you don’t see what you’re looking for below, check out complete answers to our 14 most frequently asked questions here.

How does a walk in cooler work?

Heat energy always moves from areas of higher temperature to areas of lower temperature.  Refrigerant inside of a walk in cooler absorbs heat inside, then passes through a compressor as it travels outside. The higher pressure increases the temperature of the refrigerant until it transfers heat to the outside air. When the refrigerant passes back inside, it is expanded again, cooling the refrigerant and beginning the process again.

What temperature does a walk in cooler operate at?

Walk in coolers are usually set at 35°, but specific applications may require higher or lower temperatures.

Can a walk in cooler be used as a freezer?

Standard walk ins may be able to be converted into freezers if their insulation is thick enough, but they would require major system changes. If you need a unit that can work as a walk in cooler or freezer, Polar King offers dual-temperature units that can be set for cooling or freezing temperatures with the turn of a dial.

What are common walk in cooler sizes?

Most manufacturers offer panel boxes that are assembled on site with 8’x10’ or 8’x20’ dimensions. Because Polar King’s outdoor walk ins are custom built and aren’t constrained by the size of your existing structure, we can build your walk in to whatever size fits your needs — up to 16’ x 65’.

How much electricity does a walk in cooler use?

There are many factors that affect how much electricity your walk in cooler uses, including the size of the unit, its location, and what it’s used for. Many walk-in coolers are 1½-3 horsepower systems needing 15-30 amps and 208-230 volts, 3-phase, but this may vary, depending on your application.

What type of insulation is used in walk in coolers?

Panel Boxes use foamed-in-place polyurethane components that can leave voids that allow heat to flow into the unit. Polar King walk in coolers use Polyisocyanurate rigid board insulation, which provides high compressive strength, excellent adhesion to facers, low water absorption, and low vapor transmission, and superior energy efficiency.
